New Bern Farm Wedding –
Battens’ Barn

New Bern Farm Wedding - Battens

Courtney and Joe were wed at Battens’ Barn in New Bern last month. This venue couldn’t have been more perfect for a laid-back, fall farm wedding! The owners of Battens’ Farm completed their new barn just in time for these two to celebrate!
This wedding was filled with so many details we loved! Courtney made her grand entrance in a horse drawn carriage. Quilt covered hay bales served as seating for the ceremony. Glitter and rhinestone encrusted turquoise cowboy boots were the perfect touch of something blue (as was her burlap flower garter.) And of course – we can’t forget the horses who thought Courtney’s sunflower bouquet was the perfect tasty treat!
These two are one of the most genuinely sweet couples and it’s clear to see the love they have for one another and their families. We wish them all the best!

Tell us about your wedding!
“We got married at Batten Farms in New Bern, NC. We chose this venue because it was absolutely beautiful, and it had the rustic feel that we wanted.  Our theme was rustic farm wedding. Joe and I both love the outdoors and loved the idea of incorporating our interests into our wedding day.”

I love that Courtney was able to include her dad’s wedding boots into her ceremony backdrop. Such a sweet, sentimental touch!

What is your favorite wedding day memory?
“The whole day was so absolutely beautiful and full of love, that picking a single moment is hard to do! However, with that being said, walking down the aisle and seeing Joe standing at the end will forever be my favorite.”

What were some of your favorite wedding day details?
“One of my favorite details was when Joe and I gave the roses to our moms to signify the joining of the two families. Another favorite detail would be the send off with the sparklers and motorcycles. It was absolutely insane, and a complete surprise! The little decorations and details that my mom and aunt added in made it even more special for us.”

What advice do you have for other couple’s planning their own weddings?
“Don’t rush! Enjoy the time y’all have together and work together to plan it.”

Courtney’s dad gave one of the most heartfelt and funny Father of the Bride speeches we’ve heard in ages.  We always love a great storyteller! 🙂

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We went to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and stayed at the Beaches resort! It was absolutely beautiful, and the employees were incredibly sweet and fun to talk to.”

Chapel Hill Carriage House Wedding
Chapel Hill, NC

Kelly and James had the most beautiful wedding at the Chapel Hill Carriage House! This has easily become one of our favorite wedding venues; not only is it filled with lush landscaping and thoughtful details – it’s also a working farm with goats, chickens, and an alpaca. (An alpaca that that they bring out in a bowtie and tophat = sold!) We could honestly shoot here every weekend – there are so many amazing locations for photos throughout the venue.

These two have been so fun and easy to work with over the last year. Kelly and James are seriously two of the nicest people you’ll meet, and it was easy to see how much their friends and family adored them. So many sweet, heartfelt toasts!

How did you and James meet?
“Ironically, we actually met via mutual friends on Facebook while attending UNCW. But we ‘officially’ met for the first time in the university’s student union cafeteria.”

How did James propose to you?
“He had my dad call and say that he wanted to take us to a fancy dinner at Angus Barn. My dad called again once we were there and said he wouldn’t be able to make it, but that we should still have dinner on him. After dinner, the waiter brought out a little cake for us covered up, and when we removed the lid, there was a little sign on it that said, ‘Will you marry me?’ (Note: I knew something was up because James barely touched his steak during dinner. Normally, a steak dinner doesn’t last more than 5 minutes on James’ plate!)

Blush roses, lamb

Aren’t these two stunning?! I really loved Kelly’s bouquet of blush roses, eucalyptus, and lamb’s ear – so pretty!

What is your favorite memory of the day?
James: “When they opened the doors, and I saw Kelly for the first time about to walk down the aisle.”

North Carolina Wedding Photographers

These two said their vows underneath the Carriage House’s new ceremony site; an open air framed arbor anchored by a floral chandelier. So pretty!

What were some of your favorite wedding details?
“I really loved the ceremony location, which had recently been added to the Carriage House. The flower chandelier was a nice addition. I also really loved the simple things that weren’t think I could have planned or added, like all of the already existing florals and greenery around the venue. It really adds to the simplistic beauty of the venue itself.”

Tell us about your wedding!
“We chose the Chapel Hill Carriage House because we wanted a rustic chic and simplistic outdoor feel. (This was our overall theme.) We felt like the Chapel Hill Carriage House was the perfect mix of rustic, with that overall classic beauty too. We also loved that there was corn hole for the guests, and of course…the alpaca dressed up in a bow tie and top hat!”

Do you have any advice for other couples planning their weddings?
“Delegate, delegate, delegate! I tried to give too many tasks to myself. (I’m quite the perfectionist!) However, it is much better to let others help, and delegate some of your remaining tasks to them. Even though it’s tough to let go of something when every task feels trivial!”

Chapel Hill Carriage House Wedding Photo

What is your favorite wedding day memory?
Kelly: “I think my favorite part was dancing and singing with all of my friends and family (especially when a Taylor Swift song came on!) Or the moments leading up to the ceremony, when we were all lined up and ready to go. It was such a surreal feeling, being so nervous but also so excited.”

“We went to Cancun! It was gorgeous and we had a great time at the Finest Playa Mujeres Resort.

The Barn at Woodlake Meadows Wedding

The Barn at Woodlake Meadows Wedding Photo

Tori and DJ were wed this spring at The Barn at Woodlake Meadows in Bear Creek, NC. This wedding venue was so perfect for their wedding! The Barn at Woodlake Meadows is settled on over 50 acres of beautiful farmland. The venue itself overlooks a large pond and is surrounded by silos, the cutest farm animals (hello, llamas and baby goats!), and vineyards. It was the perfect rustic setting for a spring farm wedding!
We’ve had so much fun getting to know Tori and DJ over the last year. These two and their families couldn’t be any sweeter! It was such an honor to be able to photograph their gorgeous wedding! We wish them all the best!

“We got married at The Barn at Woodlake Meadows. That was the first and last place that we looked. It was absolutely the perfect combo of laid back & fancy! DJ & I are really laid back and love the outdoors and we instantly felt this while touring this venue.”

What was the most fun part of the wedding planning for you?
“The best part of wedding planning for me was getting to spend quality time with my mom. I feel like the whole experience made me even closer to her. I was fortunate enough to have her plan a lot of the wedding for me and take the stress off of me. I could not have done any of it without her.”Carolina Blue Bridesmaid Dresses Wedding PhotoFlowergirl Babys Breath Flower Crown Photo
What was your favorite wedding day memory?
“Our favorite memory (for both of us) was probably when we stood back to back before the wedding and got to talk and pass notes without looking at each other. We got to hold hands and really let the moment sink in before all of the festivities started. I love that the first time he saw me was when I was walking down the isle, but I absolutely loved that we got to share just a moment between the two of us first.”

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their own wedding?
“The best advice I could give is to sit back for a few minutes in the morning of your wedding and really let it sink in that its your wedding day. You never get the day back, so don’t rush anything and just have fun. Don’t stress because at the end of the day you get to marry the love of your life and that’s all that matters. Don’t get so caught up in planning the wedding that you explode because everything works out in the end, and that small detail that you forgot – no one else will notice!”

A Nashville Farm Wedding

Ashley + DavidNashville Farm Wedding Photographer

Like many modern day couples, Ashley and David met on an online dating website. After communicating through texts for a few days, they decided to meet for the first time. Ashley had invited a few friends and family over to grill out – and decided to extend an invitation to David as well. By the end of the night, they knew they were on to something!
One of the first things we noticed when meeting these two is the way David lights up whenever he looks at Ashley…or her name is mentioned. It’s the sweetest thing!

Ashley and David were married this spring on her family’s beautiful Nashville Farm. Their rustic chic farm wedding was full of DIY touches; wood from the surrounding land was cut and used as aisle markers and centerpieces, doors and mantels were salvaged from old barns for their altar, and family heirlooms were borrowed to decorate the site. Ashley was very hands-on in all of the planning stages – she designed her own dress and made all of the floral arrangement in the days leading up to the wedding as well. Impressive, right?!

What advice do you have for couples currently planning their own weddings?
“Try to capture your personality in the decorations. I think it makes it more meaningful when your guests and your pictures (which last forever) really get a sense of who the couple really is. If you are simple people…don’t spend a fortune on things that will just be thrown away the next day, especially if they do not represent who you are.”

Siera + Louis’ Wedding at The Farm in Candler, NC.

the-farm-asheville-wedding-photo (34)

Siera and Louis’ beautiful, rustic chic wedding celebration took place at The Farm in Candler, NC. The Farm is an awesome wedding venue located just outside of Asheville in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The venue itself is on a working farm with rolling pastures, and it’s gorgeous! It was the perfect setting for Siera and Louis’ laid-back, handmade wedding celebration.

No wedding day is without its hiccups, of course. Siera and Louis’ wedding week started off a bit rocky when this Chicago-based bride arrived in Asheville minus her wedding dress! Luckily, her Maid of Honor saved the say and the rest of the week flew by! This sweet couple spent the days leading up to their wedding, welcoming friends and family and enlisting their help in gathering flowers from the farmer’s market and putting the finishing touches on their decor. It’s always so much fun to photograph weddings where all of the guests clearly adore the couple, as was the case with Siera and Lou. These two were super sweet and so much fun to work with!

Thanks so much for choosing us to be your wedding photographers, Siera + Lou! We loved getting to you guys and sharing in your day!

How did you meet and Louis meet?
“We lived next door to each other in dorm apartments at UNC. I met Lou at a party on his side of the building. After being friends for a few years, we started dating after Lou graduated in summer 2007.”

What were some of your favorite wedding decor details?
“With everyone’s hard work, the decor at the reception space came together beautifully. We also really loved the big purple plants and the handmade garland (made by our friend and wedding coordinator extraordinaire Sarah Sanders) at the gazebo where the ceremony took place.”
