A Raleigh JC Raulston Arboretum Engagement.

Raleigh JC Raulston Arboretum Engagement PhotoWe spent a lovely afternoon getting to know Jessica and Peter recently. These two couldn’t have been any sweeter! We wandered through the JC Raulston Arboretum with them before heading to Dix Park to wrap their engagement session. And these two are officially married now! Yay! We can’t wait to share their gorgeous North Carolina Museum of Art wedding! But in the meantime, here are a few photos from their recent engagement session:

How did you and Peter meet?
“We met on an app called “Coffee Meets Bagel” – we still can’t figure out who is the coffee and who is the bagel…”

Tell us about your first date!
“We went to Mateo in Durham. Pete was in law school and Jess was practicing law in Raleigh. Durham was in the middle and perfect for two Spanish speaking travelers.”

What do you love most about Peter?
“Pete is very thoughtful, loyal, and intelligent in addition to being a great cook. He is always open to trying new things and encourages me to get outside my comfort zone. He goes to great lengths to do things for people that he cares about. Most importantly, he is a lovable and positive person and really committed to us as a couple.”

What do you love most about Jessica?
“Jess is a very devoted daughter, sister and friend.  She cares so much about the people in her life.  She also has this secret sense of adventure that not a lot of people know about, but it is so much fun to share new experiences with her – as long as they don’t involve wildlife!”

Tell us about your wedding!
“We are getting married at the North Carolina Museum of Art in October. A lot of friends and family will probably be coming in from out of town, so we are looking forward to sharing all things Raleigh with our guests.”

Raleigh Rose Garden Engagement

Howie proposed to Jo at the Raleigh Rose Garden in downtown Raleigh, so it was only fitting that their engagement session took place there as well. This sweet couple was SO much fun to work with!  We can’t wait for their downtown Asheboro wedding next spring.

How did you guys meet?
“Howie and I met when we were both in 8th grade. One of my friends convinced me to become a wrestling manager. Howie was a wrestler who just so happened to have a broken collar bone. Since he was injured, he wasn’t able to partake in practice, but still had to attend. I will never forget walking into practice and seeing this really cute guy sitting on one of the rolled up mats. I knew then, this boy was different than all the others.”

Tell us about your first date!
“We became best friends shortly after we met, but I never told him how I truly felt about him. Finally, one day in 11th grade, he invited me over to his house to play Guitar Hero, because we had a bet on who was better. We went to Wendy’s after school and headed to his house. We hung out all afternoon talking about everything under the sun and playing Guitar Hero. That afternoon, he finally asked me to be his girlfriend!”

How did Howie pop the question?
“Howie proposed two days after my birthday. At that time, Howie and I were both still in college, so we decided that I would come up to Raleigh for the weekend and we could go out for a nice dinner. I had invited my grandma and aunt to meet us for dinner as well. After we both got ready, we got in the car heading to the restaurant – or so I thought! Howie told me that he wanted to show me something really quick before dinner. By that point, I was hangry and I tried to convince him to let me call my family to at least go ahead and get a table. When we finally parked, he made me get out of the car and go for a walk with them. I was very frustrated because all I wanted to do was eat! After walking for a couple minutes, he stopped and made me put my hands over my eyes (at this point I would have done anything just to hurry this up!) He started leading me down a gravel pathway. Finally, he said I could uncover my eyes. When I looked up I saw a beautiful field of roses! I was so amazed! I wanted to stop and take pictures of all the flowers, but I could tell he had other intentions. He took hold of my hand and led me to another part of the garden. When we turned the corner, I was surprised to see both our families there yelling, ‘Happy Birthday!’ I was shocked, but kind of upset because that meant no one was at the restaurant getting us a table… We began walking around the garden and someone suggested that Howie and I get our picture taken in front of the fountain. I went to pose for a snapshot, and looked over to see Howie getting down on one knee. I had NO CLUE what he was doing and was in utter shock! Of course, I said yes!”

A Fred Fletcher Park Engagement

Kate + David

Oh my goodness, you guys! These past two wedding seasons have been crazy, and we realized today that we hadn’t blogged in FOREVER! So we’re going to slowly be catching up the blog over the next couple of weeks, mixing in some older weddings with newer ones. (So basically if you notice that the seasons are all out of order in these next few posts – this is why!)

It’s always fun to meet couples who come to us as referrals from our past brides and grooms. Kate and David were guests at Natalie and David’s Pinehurst wedding last year. They got engaged after relocating to Columbus, but reached out to us once they started planning their own wedding! And we are SO glad they did! We’ve had such a great time getting to know these two over the last year. I always love when we meet with couples and something just clicks!

We started off Kate and David’s engagement session at the JC Raulston Arboretum, finishing up at Fred Fletcher Park in Raleigh. These two are so super sweet, and we had SO much fun at their Franklin Park Conservatory wedding in Ohio this past fall! It was AMAZING, and we can’t wait to share it soon!

How did you and David meet?
“Dave and I agree that the $60 spent on eHarmony was the best ever. We both spotted each other’s profile and started chatting through email. After a couple weeks of exchanging lengthy emails, Dave asked me out for a coffee!”

What are some of your favorite ways to unwind together?
“We love to hike and explore new places together, so we try to travel as much as we can. We like to try new foods and enjoy a quiet night in with a cup of tea cuddled in a blanket.”

Where did you go on your first date?
“We went for a coffee and Dave accompanied me to the Hurricanes charity game where I was taking photos of a friend.”

What are your favorite qualities of Dave’s?
“There is no one thing that is my favorite of David’s! He is my best friend and partner in crime. He challenges me intellectually and is a great partner in conversations. He is really competitive, ha! I hate and love it at the same time. He is a really caring guy.”

What qualities do you admire most in Kate?
“Kate pushes me outside of my comfort zone and challenges me to think outside the box. She plans our adventures and is a great cook!”
