They say rain on a wedding day is lucky, so we think this sweet couple is in for a lifetime of good fortune! We first met Amber + Josh during their engagement session over the summer. Josh lives in Georgia, so the only day we were able to schedule their session ended up being on the only rainy day that month! Naturally, their wedding day was filled with rain as well. These two didn’t let it bother them though – who cares about a little rain when you’re about to marry your best friend after all!

Skyview on Hay was the perfect wedding venue for this low-key celebration. Amber + Josh are Atlanta-based photographers, and we love how they injected their personalities into their wedding decor. Vintage cameras were displayed as centerpieces, along with gorgeous florals from Owen’s Florist. As avid gamers, they also managed to sneak in a few theme songs from their favorite games during the reception. So fun!

How did you and Josh meet?
“Mutual friends on Facebook. It was a couple days after New Years 2010 and I got a message saying “Happy New Years from GA” to which I responded with “Happy New Years from NC.” This started a five year long distance relationship that lead to our wedding day.”

How did he propose?
“I traveled to Baxley, Georgia (Middle of Nowhere). We were about to go on a cruise with his family. He said I was meeting some of his family before the trip and we went to this incredible old house. When I walked through the doors I was so distracted by how amazing the house was that I didn’t notice the framed photos of us, the flowers, and candles. He opened these double doors into the living room where my parents and some of his family stood. Rose petals were on the floor making a path in front of the fireplace where he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was so perfect for us…simple, romantic and having family there just made it that much better to celebrate with them.”

What is your favorite wedding day memory?
Josh: “The only memory that matters was the one of having my beautiful bride walk up the aisle to me. She is simply stunning.”
Amber: “My favorite memory would have to be right after the ceremony. We went to the room across from where the ceremony was held to meet with the wedding party. Josh looked at me, smiled and started to cry as he told me I looked beautiful. It was so sweet and a moment I will never forget.”

What’s your favorite way to spend time together?
“Playing video games. We are nerds at heart so that is our favorite way to spend time together.”

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?
“Patience and trying to relax as much as you can. There will be things that go wrong in planning and it will be stressful sometimes.
But take time to enjoy the planning since it goes by so fast and remembering what this is all leading up to, marrying your best friend.”

What were some of your favorite wedding details?
Josh: “The best two details for me were: 1. Her dress, I didn’t have any knowledge of it before hand but it was perfectly beautiful and fit her perfectly. 2. The cheesecake. Yum, Cheesecake!”
Amber: “The flowers had to be a favorite for me. From my bouquet to the centerpieces – everything just looked amazing. Also our songs especially for the ceremony. Our exiting song was a song from Portal, a video game, and it just fit so perfectly for us.”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We went to Universal and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida. The weather was incredible and we definitely missed it when coming back to the cold weather in Georgia!”
