Melanie & Chip’s NC Museum of History Wedding in Raleigh.

Bride and Groom Wedding PortraitAshley and I were so excited to photograph Melanie + Chip’s beautiful and sentimental Raleigh wedding in March. It was an honor to celebrate with this sweet couple and we wish them all the best in their new life together!
Melanie + Chip were married at the Fairmont United Methodist Church, followed by a reception at the North Carolina Museum of History.

“Chip and I met at our friend Kyle’s house during a cookout in the summer of 2010. Chip had also become friends with my older brother a few years before but we had never met.”

“Chip and I love going to concerts and traveling. We’ve seen some pretty amazing singers and bands together over the past 4 years and have been on some great vacations. Having things to look forward to together is really important.”

What advice would you give to couples currently planning their weddings?
“I would just tell couples who are planning their wedding now to get the big stuff done first. Pick a dress, caterer, venue, and photographer as soon as you have decided on the date. We were able to relax for a few months and just enjoy each other’s company before we had to get back into the final stages of planning and I’m so glad we did!”

How did Chip propose?
“I had been out of town for about 4 days and was finally heading home, exhausted and ready to relax. I walked in the door and sat down on the sofa to talk to Chip and give a belly rub to our sweet dog, Marley. After a few minutes of chit-chat and dog hugs, Marley started to get up to walk upstairs. All of a sudden Chip gets up and grab Marley by the collar to stop him. At this point, he turns the collar around, and hanging from it was a beautiful diamond ring! Chip got down on one knee and asked me to marry him…and the rest is history!”

Just as they made their grand entrance…fire alarms started going off! Everyone shuffled out of the building and into the cold, but Melanie + Chip didn’t let it ruin their evening. It gave them the perfect chance to mingle with guests…and try on fireman gear.Raleigh Bride in firemanwedding cake at NC History MuseumNorth Carolina Museum of History Wedding Photo   Rollin In The Hay NC Wedding BandNC History Museum Reception Photos North Carolina History Museum Reception Photo

What were some of your favorite wedding day details?
“Chip and I both decided we wanted to remember and honor all of our relatives who have passed away. Chip lost his grandmother last year and I lost my grandfather, so having pictures of them for all of our friends and family to see was really special to us. We also decided to go into the balcony at our church after our ceremony and wave goodbye to our guests. So many people turned around and were surprised to see us there and then they all started waving and clapping. It was awesome!”

The history museum is such an awesome, unique venue – and we loved that Melanie + Chip styled their reception

Halfway through the ceremony, Chip jumped up with the band (Rollin’ In The Hay) to serenade Melanie. So sweet!

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
“I would have to say that the best memory I have from our wedding day (aside from marrying my wonderful husband) would be me and my 4 brothers, crammed together in our photo booth, taking ridiculous pictures together. They are my 4 best friends and we now have so many wonderful pictures, funny and serious, to share for the rest of our lives.”

Rachel + Jeremy’s Rand-Bryan House Wedding in Garner, NC.

wedding portraits at christmas tree farm

Every now and then we photograph a wedding where everything falls perfectly into place. The weather is beautiful, everything runs on time, and all of the couple’s loved ones are just as excited to celebrate with them as they are to be married. Rachel and Jeremy’s wedding was one these perfect weddings.

This was the first wedding we’ve photographed at the Rand-Bryan House…and it instantly became one of our favorite Raleigh-area venues. The Rand-Bryan House is a cozy, historic home located in Garner (~15 minutes outside of Raleigh.) With a gorgeous little meadow on one side and a Christmas tree farm on the other, it’s a photographer’s dream! It was also the perfect setting for Rachel + Jeremy’s art-inspired love day.
I asked Ashley for a description of the wedding day while writing this post, and she instantly responded with: ‘ boho-chic wedding.’ It took some googling, but I think she was right on. From the 1,000 origami cranes to watercolor table decor, their art-inspired decor fit right in.

I really enjoyed their take on the unity tradition by combining their favorite colors into a painting. A unity canvas is a pretty awesome keepsake.

Jeremy built their wedding arbor, while Rachel filled it with handmade dreamcatchers crafted from bits of lace and shells.
A gift from Jeremy, so that Rachel “always has something to hang her dreams on.”

R + J also spent the months leading up to their wedding day, folding 1,000 paper cranes for their reception decor.
This is called sembazuru, a Japanese tradition that symbolizes the patience and trust necessary to sustain a happy marriage. Cranes are not only a symbol for luck, but for longevity as it is believed that the crane lives 1,000 years.

Downtown Raleigh Engagement Photographer | Rachel + Jeremy’s Winter Sessioncity engagement photo

We had a ton of fun exploring downtown Raleigh with Rachel and Jeremy this winter. They had just relocated from New York, and like us, still weren’t super familiar with the area. So it was the perfect excuse for all of us to get a little more acquainted with the downtown area.
These two will finally get to say their ‘I Do’s’ at the Rand-Bryan House later this week and we’re definitely looking forward to their wedding!
But for now, a few favorites from their winter engagement…

We had it all planned out…an overgrown field, soft rolling hills, and a golden sunset.  I was so excited! And then? Crazy storms rolled in!
David and I were only in town for one day, so we spent all afternoon driving around in the rain, trying to find spots that weren’t covered in mud or gigantic puddles. It was a mess! I was so worried that Hallee was going to be disappointed – we’d been planning this off and on for weeks. And downtown alleys? Not exactly what we’ d discussed… But Hallee was amazing! She let us know that she trusted us, and we ended up having a lot of fun with the session.
And that’s kind of what what’s so great about Hallee! She’s just so positive and energetic! I’ve loved getting to know her over the past year and a half. She’s been a total sweetheart every time we’ve met up with her!  (And doesn’t she look GORGEOUS?!)
