Melanie & Chip’s NC Museum of History Wedding in Raleigh.
Ashley and I were so excited to photograph Melanie + Chip’s beautiful and sentimental Raleigh wedding in March. It was an honor to celebrate with this sweet couple and we wish them all the best in their new life together!
Melanie + Chip were married at the Fairmont United Methodist Church, followed by a reception at the North Carolina Museum of History.
What’s your favorite way to spend time together?
“Chip and I love going to concerts and traveling. We’ve seen some pretty amazing singers and bands together over the past 4 years and have been on some great vacations. Having things to look forward to together is really important.”
What advice would you give to couples currently planning their weddings?
“I would just tell couples who are planning their wedding now to get the big stuff done first. Pick a dress, caterer, venue, and photographer as soon as you have decided on the date. We were able to relax for a few months and just enjoy each other’s company before we had to get back into the final stages of planning and I’m so glad we did!”
How did Chip propose?
“I had been out of town for about 4 days and was finally heading home, exhausted and ready to relax. I walked in the door and sat down on the sofa to talk to Chip and give a belly rub to our sweet dog, Marley. After a few minutes of chit-chat and dog hugs, Marley started to get up to walk upstairs. All of a sudden Chip gets up and grab Marley by the collar to stop him. At this point, he turns the collar around, and hanging from it was a beautiful diamond ring! Chip got down on one knee and asked me to marry him…and the rest is history!”
Just as they made their grand entrance…fire alarms started going off! Everyone shuffled out of the building and into the cold, but Melanie + Chip didn’t let it ruin their evening. It gave them the perfect chance to mingle with guests…and try on fireman gear.
What were some of your favorite wedding day details?
“Chip and I both decided we wanted to remember and honor all of our relatives who have passed away. Chip lost his grandmother last year and I lost my grandfather, so having pictures of them for all of our friends and family to see was really special to us. We also decided to go into the balcony at our church after our ceremony and wave goodbye to our guests. So many people turned around and were surprised to see us there and then they all started waving and clapping. It was awesome!”
The history museum is such an awesome, unique venue – and we loved that Melanie + Chip styled their reception
centerpieces around their ownfamily histories, displaying photos of their parents and grandparent’s weddings.
Halfway through the ceremony, Chip jumped up with the band (Rollin’ In The Hay) to serenade Melanie. So sweet!
What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
“I would have to say that the best memory I have from our wedding day (aside from marrying my wonderful husband) would be me and my 4 brothers, crammed together in our photo booth, taking ridiculous pictures together. They are my 4 best friends and we now have so many wonderful pictures, funny and serious, to share for the rest of our lives.”
