Britta + Mark’s Wrightsville Beach and 128 South Wilmington Wedding

wrightsville-beach-wedding-photographerBritta and Mark are the sweetest! We loved every single minute of our time with these two and their awesome family + friends recently.
This laid back beach fête started off at a beautiful church (St. Therese) overlooking the ocean. After their nuptials and a super fun portrait session on Wrightsville Beach, Britta and Mark kicked off their reception at 128 South in downtown Wilmington. Set atop a roof overlooking the Cape Fear River, family and friends danced the night away with this sweet couple. Seriously – I don’t think the dance floor was empty for a single minute! It was such a fun night!

We wish these two all the best. It truly was The Best Day Ever!

How did you and Mark meet?
“Mark and Britta met in the spring of 2012 in Charlotte, NC. They sat next to each other on a bus up to Lake Norman when they were first introduced. Initially, both Britta and Mark kept to themselves. In fact, they didn’t end up meeting again until randomly two weeks later at Alive After Five, a weekly concert in uptown Charlotte. Britta’s step-brother, Mike, pointed to Mark in the crowd and told Britta he was worth getting to know, so Britta approached Mark and asked him to dance. After that moment, they were inseparable.
Two months into their relationship, Mark was given a job offer in Austin, TX. He declined the job offer. He declined it without doubt that it was worth staying in Charlotte to be with Britta. After making the decision, he decided it would be a great idea to tell Britta he loved her. Mark decided to take her to a nice Italian restaurant uptown where he wrote down a speech and read it to her over dinner. In that speech he told her that he was given a job offer but turned it down and the only reason was because he was in love with her.”

What are your favorite memories from your wedding day?
“Getting ready with the family at the rental house, the ceremony, and dancing at the reception.”

Where did you go on your first date?
“On a two story boat that floated around Lake Norman”

How did Mark propose?
“Mark and I planned a trip to the beach to celebrate our one year anniversary last June in Wilmington, North Carolina. When I woke up early Saturday morning, Mark had the day planned. We started the day with the hotel breakfast and Starbucks coffees, a quick jog around the Wrightsville Beach loop, and a leisurely walk across the bridge to spend the entire day at the beach by ourselves. The sky was blue, the sun was shining, and the temperature was perfect. Once we settled into our beach chairs, Mark grabbed my hand and kissed it. He started to talk about all his favorite memories from the past year and how much fun we had had together. Originally our plan was to exchange our anniversary gifts at dinner, but Mark said he couldn’t wait. I closed my eyes and Mark’s shadow covered the sun in front of me. I watched his shadow slowly fall to one knee…when I opened my eyes, Mark was kneeling in the sand asking me to marry him! And of course, I said Yes!”

What’s your favorite thing about your relationship?
“How much fun we have together and how everything is just easy.”North-Carolina-Beach-Wedding-PhotoWrightsville-Beach-Wedding-PhotographersWrightsville-Beach-Wedding-Photo

How would you describe each other?
“Fun, energetic, happy, driven, and family-oriented.”

What were some of your favorite details?
“The flowers at the church and the pew decor, the beach at the church, the bridesmaids and groomsmen outfits, the tables at the venue with signs & the porch outside, the table with the wedding cake, the tent & edison lights, “Markabrita.”

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?
“Enjoy it! Don’t let the pressure of making it the perfect day make you forget what’s most important – marrying the man of your dreams! & make sure you dance!”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“Kauai, Hawaii”

A Southport Community Building Wedding in Southport, NC.

Southport is a charming, seaside town where the mouth of the Cape Fear River meets the Atlantic Ocean. It was the perfect setting for a bride who dreamed of getting married by the sea. Lisa and Michael were married at the Southport Community Building beneath a gorgeous Oak tree overlooking the water. It was a beautiful ceremony, and the entire day was filled with joy and lots of dancing.
We’re so honored that these two allowed us to capture their wedding day! Congratulations, Lisa and Michael!

Katie + Ben’s Destination Kure Beach Wedding

Kure Beach Wedding Photographer

Katie + Ben’s intimate Kure Beach destination wedding took place over the summer.

You know how every now and then you meet someone for the first time and you just ‘click?’ Within minutes of meeting Katie + Ben, they felt like old friends. They were so much fun and so happy to be married – we loved being able to share their wedding day with them!
Ben is from Liverpool, and Katie from South Carolina. Since most of their wedding guests were traveling in from all over the world, they decided to rent a beach house to share with their loved ones, giving everyone a chance to bond. A week-long celebration that ended with their vows – it was a perfect destination wedding.

She also created a unique bouquet using sola flowers and wire stems.
And the morning of the wedding, Ben scoured the beach for bits of driftwood to hang their tealights on.

Dana + Ryan’s wedding was held at a private residence along with Intracoastal Waterway in Wrightsville Beach, NC

Dana + Ryan’s wedding probably ranks #1 for the most injuries in a single day (multiple bee stings + a cork pop in the eye – ouch!) But it was also one of our favorites of 2013!
An adorable, heartfelt ceremony underneath a giant willow tree…followed with delicious food and a packed dance floor. Theirs was everything a wedding should be! No fuss, low key, and a ton of fun – just like Dana and Ryan!

Here’s a quick peek at their lovely day.

groom getting ready for weddingpre-wedding toasts for brideRyan thoughtfully included a card for Dana’s bridesmaids – thanking them for their friendship, and promising to take care of her.

How did you and Ryan meet?
“We met on the set of One Tree Hill.  I saw him from afar and I was immediately attracted to him. He didn’t give me the time of day though! I was persistent and finally got him to ask me on a date and we have been happy ever since. :)”

How did he propose to you?
“He took me to the Baltimore Planetarium and had a whole setup that the employees were in on. At the end of the show, we stuck around so he could ask the guide questions, and then all of the sudden, the lights went out, our song came on and the words “Dana, Will You Marry Me” popped up on the planetarium dome.  I cried like a little baby I was so happy.”

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their own weddings?
“Don’t let others persuade you!  I knew what I wanted for the wedding and while a lot of friends and family wanted to give input/criticism, I simply told them, “No, thank you on giving advice. I want to plan the wedding of MY dreams.”

Jen + Jimmy were wed during an intimate beach ceremony at Ft. Fisher / Kure Beach in North Carolina. Their wedding ceremony was followed with a fun backyard reception…complete with cornhole and board games. Love!

I can’t even begin to tell you how much I adored this wedding! These two are seriously the SWEETEST couple! They’re always smiling and laughing…and are just really fun to be around (which makes us a little sad they live all the way in New York.)
And Jen’s family? They couldn’t have been more welcoming to David + I from the moment we walked into their home! That’s always such a relief when photographing a wedding – we love when the couple’s parents are on board and excited to work with us as well. 🙂

Do you have any advice to those currently planning their weddings?
“Don’t expect things to go as planned, there will be things that go wrong!  In the end everything will be perfect (and a blur), just try not to let things that go wrong bother you and enjoy your day – your guests probably won’t notice that anything is even amiss. “

Is there anything you would do differently?
“Planning a wedding from out of state was the most difficult aspect of the wedding – hiring a coordinator to work with the many vendors might have made it easier!  And not forgetting to do the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances!”

Jen’s brother had a ridiculous amount of leftover fireworks, which he brought along. Pretty awesome, right?!
