Dana + J’s Raleigh Engagement

JC Raulston Arboretum Engagement Photographers

We met Dana and Jabari at JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh for their engagement session. This Detroit couple would be eloping later in the week, but wanted to document this exciting stage of their relationship first! And oh my goodness – we had so much fun with both of them! I don’t think we’ve ever laughed so much at a session! Normally, the guys are pretty reserved during the engagement session and shy away from most public displays of affection. Jabari’s enthusiasm, however, was hilarious! Dana isn’t a huge fan of PDA, so he was super eager to take full advantage of all the kisses and cuddles he could get! It was pretty cute. Dana and J really are such a joyful, energetic couple. I adored our time with them! Congrats to these newlyweds!

A Fred Fletcher Park Engagement

Kate + David

Oh my goodness, you guys! These past two wedding seasons have been crazy, and we realized today that we hadn’t blogged in FOREVER! So we’re going to slowly be catching up the blog over the next couple of weeks, mixing in some older weddings with newer ones. (So basically if you notice that the seasons are all out of order in these next few posts – this is why!)

It’s always fun to meet couples who come to us as referrals from our past brides and grooms. Kate and David were guests at Natalie and David’s Pinehurst wedding last year. They got engaged after relocating to Columbus, but reached out to us once they started planning their own wedding! And we are SO glad they did! We’ve had such a great time getting to know these two over the last year. I always love when we meet with couples and something just clicks!

We started off Kate and David’s engagement session at the JC Raulston Arboretum, finishing up at Fred Fletcher Park in Raleigh. These two are so super sweet, and we had SO much fun at their Franklin Park Conservatory wedding in Ohio this past fall! It was AMAZING, and we can’t wait to share it soon!

How did you and David meet?
“Dave and I agree that the $60 spent on eHarmony was the best ever. We both spotted each other’s profile and started chatting through email. After a couple weeks of exchanging lengthy emails, Dave asked me out for a coffee!”

What are some of your favorite ways to unwind together?
“We love to hike and explore new places together, so we try to travel as much as we can. We like to try new foods and enjoy a quiet night in with a cup of tea cuddled in a blanket.”

Where did you go on your first date?
“We went for a coffee and Dave accompanied me to the Hurricanes charity game where I was taking photos of a friend.”

What are your favorite qualities of Dave’s?
“There is no one thing that is my favorite of David’s! He is my best friend and partner in crime. He challenges me intellectually and is a great partner in conversations. He is really competitive, ha! I hate and love it at the same time. He is a really caring guy.”

What qualities do you admire most in Kate?
“Kate pushes me outside of my comfort zone and challenges me to think outside the box. She plans our adventures and is a great cook!”

A Raleigh Arboretum Wedding | Chris + JohnRaleigh LGBT Wedding Photographers

“Life is short; love is forever!”
There was such a huge outpouring of love for Chris and John on their wedding day! It was easy to see what wonderful people they are from the many stories we heard throughout the afternoon. I love that so many friends and family came out to stand in the rain and celebrate the love between these two!
The JC Raulston Arboretum was such a gorgeous venue for their wedding! John and Chris were able to say their vows in the same garden their proposal had taken place years earlier, gathered around their family and friends. It was lovely! David and I were so honored to be able to document their union and wish them both the very best!

(You can read about Chris’ inspirational journey and see his beautiful work at Works of Chris.)

Dana + Dan’s Raleigh Arboretum Engagement Session

Raleigh Arboretum Engagement Photo
We met with this sweet couple to talk about their wedding plans exactly one year ago today. And now? Their big day has finally arrived! Yay! Dana and Dan will be saying their ‘I Do’s’ at Shady Wagon Farm today, and it’s going to be amazing!
In honor of Dana and Dan’s wedding day, here’s a peek at a few of their engagement photos. We spent an afternoon with them at the JC Raulson Arboretum in Raleigh last fall. It was so much fun getting to know these two, and we can’t wait to celebrate with them later today! Happy Wedding Day, Dana and Dan!

Erin + Matt’s Downtown Raleigh Engagement Session

Oh my goodness – there are no words for how much we loved shooting this engagement! Erin + Matt wanted a bit of an industrial feel (and lots of color) in their photos, so we headed downtown to the Raleigh Warehouse District for their engagement session. It was so much fun just to walk around and get to know them a little better. As wedding photographers, we’re constantly trying to find ways to make couples comfortable being affectionate with one another in front of the camera, but with Erin and Matt…we never had that problem. These two couldn’t keep their hands off one another. So cute!

Erin + Matt are one of the loveliest couples we’ve ever met, and we couldn’t be more excited about shooting their North Carolina Museum of Art wedding this weekend! In the meantime, here’s a peek at their Warehouse District + Arboretum engagement session:

How did the two of you meet?
Matt: “At a pool party – my roommate, Sean, worked with Erin and he thought that we should meet. So I had him bring her to a pool party that we were going to one afternoon.”

Erin: “I was invited to a pool party by one of my co-workers, but was a little reluctant to go. After some persuading and a promise to meet some new people, I decided to go and check it out. There, I saw some old friends from college and one man in particular caught my eye. I didn’t know this guy and had never met him before, but I was pretty determined to talk to him and get his attention – little did I know, I was set up! Matt and I hit it off and enjoyed great conversation, chicken fights in the pool, flip cup, and just hanging out. From day 1, I think we both knew it…it was a crazy attraction and as silly as it seems, love at first sight!”

Where did you go on your first date?
Erin: Lynnwood Grill in Raleigh. Matt will say that I stood him up for our first date, but I didn’t…that wasn’t an official date. I was supposed to meet him and his friends for drinks but was unable to.”

Matt: “Lynnwood Grill in Raleigh (if you don’t count the time she stood me up.)

What is your favorite thing about Matt?
Erin: “He has a nice butt and blue eyes I can get lost in. But seriously, he is my everything and I can’t imagine life without him.

How did Matt propose to you?
“On a private beach in Key West.  …After dinner and the sun had set, Matt asked if I wanted to walk with him to the beach. …After getting out to the beach and sitting on some Adirondack chairs, we enjoyed a cigar together and casually chatted about the day, week and random topics before I noticed Matt had started stumbling over his words and his hands grew sweatier than normal. I finally stopped him mid-sentence and asked, “Love, are you okay?” He used some choice words, reached in his pocket and got down on his knee!!! Matt said – “My love, will you marry me!?!” I can’t even tell you how my heart kept from leaping out of my chest at that very moment! I proceeded to jump on him and remember kissing him while laughing and enjoying the moment in complete awe…I was going to marry this man. After some time, Matt pulled my face away and exclaimed, “You haven’t even answered ME!!” I also let some choice words fly out before saying, “Of COURSE I will marry you!!!”

What do you like to do together in your spare time?
Matt: “We like to travel and experience new things. Anything outdoors.”
