An Umstead Park Engagement: Autumn and Joel
Joel proposed to Autumn on the first day of fall last year. How cute is that?! We met up with this super adorable, outdoorsy couple a couple of months later to photograph their engagement at Umstead State Park in Raleigh. And we had such a great time getting to know them! Autumn and Joel even brought their dog, Ava, along to get in on the engagement fun!
These two lovebirds are tying the knot TODAY in Chapel Hill, and couldn’t be more thrilled for them! (See you soon, McMaths!)
How did you and Joel meet?
“We lived in the same dorm freshman year of college and met in our first days on campus. Joel happened to be wearing a green shirt which has always been my favorite color. We were friends for about 6 months before dating.”
Where did you guys go on your first date?
“Our first date was at Top of the Hill. We ate dinner and talked. It was really nice.”
What do you love most about Joel?
“Joel is hilarious, goofy, and incredibly thoughtful. I honestly can’t say what I admire most in Joel because I admire so many things. I admire how great of a dog dad he is, his ambition, and his ability to cheer me up when I’m feeling the worst?”
How did Joel propose?
“Joel proposed on the first day of autumn. We walked to Battle Park in Chapel Hill to take ‘first day of fall’ pictures and he proposed during one of our [self-timed photos] while Ava was smiling at the camera.”
What do you admire most in Autumn?
“Autumn is passionate, almost everything she does is with such drive. Whether that be a project for a class, or a conversation about the environment – you can guarantee she will be passionate and driven in her delivery. These attributes have led me to be continually impressed in her accomplishments. Yet, through her drive and focus of her own goals, she has a wonderful ability of supporting me in mine.”
