A Rocky Mount Engagement – Ashley + David
It’s always a bit fun to come across another couple that share your names. And when that newly discovered couple just happen to be wedding photographers – and you’re recently engaged? You take that as a sign, of course! Ashley and David are such a warm and genuine couple. We loved getting to know them a bit better this fall and are so excited to be photographing their upcoming wedding!
Ashley and David’s engagement session took place in their hometown of Rocky Mount. This was our first time exploring the area and I think we both loved it’s small town charm. We started off their session at Battle Park, which was rich with fall colors before finishing up downtown. This sweet couple will be saying their ‘I do’s’ on a Nashville farm later this spring, but in the meantime, here’s a quick peek at their engagement:
How did you and David meet?
“Actually, that is sort of a funny story. Anyone that knows David and me knows we are tight with money. So when each of us had the idea to start online dating…what better way than to use a “free” online dating site! We met online in March of 2013.”
Where did you go on your first date?
“Our first date was actually a week after we had been chatting online and texting. I was having a small cookout at my house and I invited David to come and join us. Imagine this – a first date with someone you’ve never met. My parents were there…awkward, right?! Not even in the least! David pulled up on a “jacked up” truck and walked into my life like he had always been there. I think the nerves wore off after about five minutes and everything flowed from that moment on…and still is! I was really impressed that this guy was willing to come to a get together with my parents on our first date! Now I realize why. He is a perfect gentleman and really wanted to get to know me.”
How did David propose to you?
“David and I decided to take a fall trip to the NC mountains. We rented this really beautiful house on a lake. All week we hiked, cooked, enjoyed the scenery, and just enjoyed each other’s company. It really was an awesome trip. On the last day of our vacation, I was just finishing packing when David said he wanted to take a few more pictures of the lake. So he asked me to join him out on the deck. I was leaning against the railing, just admiring the view, when David starts talking about how this vacation had been great and how he had enjoyed all the things we did. Then he says, “But there is one more thing I need to do before we leave…” He grabs my arm and turns me around as he gets down on one knee. Then he popped the question! I started crying and eventually got enough composure to say “YES!”
What do you love most about David?
“I would have to say David’s kindness towards others is something that really gets to me. I have never seen or heard of a time where David did something wrong to someone. He truly is a genuinely nice person and always makes me feel validated mentally and physically. If that makes sense. He treats me as his equal and always wants to know my opinion on things which, for anyone who knows me, knows I like to give my opinion. But that doesn’t bother him. I think that is one of the reasons we get along so well. I truly believe we are soulmates. Life with him just makes sense!”
It’s perfectly normal to throw leaves on your clients, right?!
Ashley + David – thanks so much for hanging out with us! We can’t wait for your Nashville farm wedding in May! It’s going to be amazing!!
