Kelly and James had the most beautiful wedding at the Chapel Hill Carriage House! This has easily become one of our favorite wedding venues; not only is it filled with lush landscaping and thoughtful details – it’s also a working farm with goats, chickens, and an alpaca. (An alpaca that that they bring out in a bowtie and tophat = sold!) We could honestly shoot here every weekend – there are so many amazing locations for photos throughout the venue.

These two have been so fun and easy to work with over the last year. Kelly and James are seriously two of the nicest people you’ll meet, and it was easy to see how much their friends and family adored them. So many sweet, heartfelt toasts!

How did you and James meet?
“Ironically, we actually met via mutual friends on Facebook while attending UNCW. But we ‘officially’ met for the first time in the university’s student union cafeteria.”

How did James propose to you?
“He had my dad call and say that he wanted to take us to a fancy dinner at Angus Barn. My dad called again once we were there and said he wouldn’t be able to make it, but that we should still have dinner on him. After dinner, the waiter brought out a little cake for us covered up, and when we removed the lid, there was a little sign on it that said, ‘Will you marry me?’ (Note: I knew something was up because James barely touched his steak during dinner. Normally, a steak dinner doesn’t last more than 5 minutes on James’ plate!)

Blush roses, lamb

Aren’t these two stunning?! I really loved Kelly’s bouquet of blush roses, eucalyptus, and lamb’s ear – so pretty!

What is your favorite memory of the day?
James: “When they opened the doors, and I saw Kelly for the first time about to walk down the aisle.”

These two said their vows underneath the Carriage House’s new ceremony site; an open air framed arbor anchored by a floral chandelier. So pretty!

What were some of your favorite wedding details?
“I really loved the ceremony location, which had recently been added to the Carriage House. The flower chandelier was a nice addition. I also really loved the simple things that weren’t think I could have planned or added, like all of the already existing florals and greenery around the venue. It really adds to the simplistic beauty of the venue itself.”

“We chose the Chapel Hill Carriage House because we wanted a rustic chic and simplistic outdoor feel. (This was our overall theme.) We felt like the Chapel Hill Carriage House was the perfect mix of rustic, with that overall classic beauty too. We also loved that there was corn hole for the guests, and of course…the alpaca dressed up in a bow tie and top hat!”

Do you have any advice for other couples planning their weddings?
“Delegate, delegate, delegate! I tried to give too many tasks to myself. (I’m quite the perfectionist!) However, it is much better to let others help, and delegate some of your remaining tasks to them. Even though it’s tough to let go of something when every task feels trivial!”

What is your favorite wedding day memory?
Kelly: “I think my favorite part was dancing and singing with all of my friends and family (especially when a Taylor Swift song came on!) Or the moments leading up to the ceremony, when we were all lined up and ready to go. It was such a surreal feeling, being so nervous but also so excited.”

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
“We went to Cancun! It was gorgeous and we had a great time at the Finest Playa Mujeres Resort.

The Rickhouse – Durham Wedding

Lauren + Murray’s Downtown Durham Wedding at The Rickhouse.

Durham NC Wedding Photographers
We were so honored to photograph Lauren and Murray’s wedding this fall. I went to school with Lauren and we share mutual friends, so it was fun to be able to photograph a love that we’ve been able to see blossom. Lauren and Murray were married at The Rickhouse in downtown Durham. We always love a good warehouse wedding venue – all of that exposed brick and reclaimed wood! And this one is even more awesome as it overlooks the original Durham Bulls field!

This sweet couple met while working together as chefs at Washington Duke Inn. It’s pretty safe to say that food and drink are an important part of their lives!  Murray proposed to Lauren at Mystery Brewing during a special dinner date where they were able to brew their own beer batch. So we loved that Mystery Brewing surprised them with a special last batch of the Peachy-Keen Gose that Lauren and Murray brewed on the night of their engagement. These two also incorporated their love of Durham and beer by collecting bottles from all of the local breweries and distilleries and crafting them into vases for their centerpieces. Lauren’s maid of honor designed all of the floral arrangements; a mix of roses, calla lillies, and gerbera daisies that brought a touch of fall to their decor and complemented the pink bridesmaid dresses perfectly.

All in all, Lauren and Murray’s wedding day was pretty perfect! Thanks so much for allowing us to be a part of your day!

First Looks are always my favorite! All of the couple’s anxieties melt away and they’re able to enjoy a few minutes to share their excitement.
And Murray’s reaction to seeing Lauren was adorable!

A Highland Brewing Wedding in Asheville, NC.

Highland Brewing Wedding Photo

We love spending time in Asheville, so we were really excited when Shari and Will inquired with us about their upcoming Highland Brewing wedding. The Highland Brewery Event Center is an amazing wedding venue. I mean, what’s not to love about beer?! Especially when coupled with an amazing 360 rooftop view of the mountains!  From the rooftop bar’s view to the large event space and warehouse – there are tons of really cool spots for photos! Win/win!
You can never go wrong with a brewery wedding, and it was the perfect backdrop for this outdoorsy couple who first met whilst camping with friends. (They even honored their outdoorsy side with matching Chaco’s.) We always love when couples aren’t afraid to showcase their personalities with their wedding decor. In true house-divided fashion, these football fans incorporated pom poms and helmets from their respective teams. (The Georgia Bulldogs and Tennesee Volunteers.) And you know it’s true love when a Georgia fan will serenade her groom with a version of ‘Rocky Top.’ You also can’t have a brewery wedding without an amazing food truck (followed by an ice cream truck in lieu of wedding cake.) These guys had a rockin’ reception, and Right to Party kept everyone on the dance floor all night long. Congrats, Shari and Will!

Shari wore her mother’s wedding dress, which we thought was so sweet!

I always love ‘First Look’s!’ Aren’t they the sweetest?!

The Barn at Woodlake Meadows Wedding

The Barn at Woodlake Meadows Wedding Photo

Tori and DJ were wed this spring at The Barn at Woodlake Meadows in Bear Creek, NC. This wedding venue was so perfect for their wedding! The Barn at Woodlake Meadows is settled on over 50 acres of beautiful farmland. The venue itself overlooks a large pond and is surrounded by silos, the cutest farm animals (hello, llamas and baby goats!), and vineyards. It was the perfect rustic setting for a spring farm wedding!
We’ve had so much fun getting to know Tori and DJ over the last year. These two and their families couldn’t be any sweeter! It was such an honor to be able to photograph their gorgeous wedding! We wish them all the best!

“We got married at The Barn at Woodlake Meadows. That was the first and last place that we looked. It was absolutely the perfect combo of laid back & fancy! DJ & I are really laid back and love the outdoors and we instantly felt this while touring this venue.”

What was the most fun part of the wedding planning for you?
“The best part of wedding planning for me was getting to spend quality time with my mom. I feel like the whole experience made me even closer to her. I was fortunate enough to have her plan a lot of the wedding for me and take the stress off of me. I could not have done any of it without her.”Carolina Blue Bridesmaid Dresses Wedding PhotoFlowergirl Babys Breath Flower Crown Photo
What was your favorite wedding day memory?
“Our favorite memory (for both of us) was probably when we stood back to back before the wedding and got to talk and pass notes without looking at each other. We got to hold hands and really let the moment sink in before all of the festivities started. I love that the first time he saw me was when I was walking down the isle, but I absolutely loved that we got to share just a moment between the two of us first.”

What were some of your favorite wedding day details?
“We loved that we got to hang out with our bridesmaids and groomsmen the whole day during the wedding. DJ loved shooting guns & I loved talking and laughing while getting ready.”

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their own wedding?
“The best advice I could give is to sit back for a few minutes in the morning of your wedding and really let it sink in that its your wedding day. You never get the day back, so don’t rush anything and just have fun. Don’t stress because at the end of the day you get to marry the love of your life and that’s all that matters. Don’t get so caught up in planning the wedding that you explode because everything works out in the end, and that small detail that you forgot – no one else will notice!”

Jo + Howie’s Downtown Asheboro Wedding

downtown-asheboro-wedding-photo

Jo + Howie were recently wed at 105 Worth Event Centre in downtown Asheboro. We’ve only been to Asheboro a handful of times, so upon arriving at the venue, we spent a few minutes scouting the surrounding area. You guys – Asheboro has so many fun murals! Who knew?! We quickly learned that Asheboro is full of charm and lots of quirk. So thankfully we had no problems finding some adorable post ceremony portrait locations for Jo and Howie.
It was also our first time shooting a wedding at 105 Worth. I love when a venue is all inclusive to the wedding day. From getting ready suites to separate ceremony and reception spaces – the couple never has to leave the site. So nice on 95 degree days!) Plus, I’m instantly in love with any warehouse-esque space that offers hardwood floors and exposed brick! So pretty!
Congrats, Jo + Howie!

Tell us all about your wedding!
“We got married at 105 Worth Event Centre. I wanted our wedding to be elegant, beautiful, simple, and all on a budget! We chose the color gold because it’s one of Howie’s favorite colors (and because glitter!) I noticed that every time I looked at wedding ideas on Pinterest, I was always drawn to the gold, white, and blush color scheme. This helped make the decision to add blush and white to the mix.”

Wedding Day Details Photo - Something Borrowed, Something Blue

“Howie and I have been together for 7 years. As long as I can remember, Howie would give me “kiss attacks.” On the day of our wedding, while I was getting ready, there was a knock on the door. It was one of Howie’s groomsmen. He said “Jo, I need to talk to you.” Instantly, I thought something was wrong with Howie. However, as soon as I stepped out of the door, he threw a whole bag of Hershey Kisses on my head and handed me a card from Howie. He said that even though he couldn’t see me in person, he could still give me a kiss attack.”

What were some of your favorite wedding day details?
“My nana was our flower girl. After Howie and I got engaged, I saw an article where a couple used their grandmothers as flower girls. I knew instantly that I wanted my Nana to be our flower girl. She has always been there to support me and encourage me no matter what I decide to do in life, and she loves Howie as if he was her grandson. We wanted to show her how thankful we are to have her in our life!”

What is your favorite wedding day memory?

“One of my favorite memories from our wedding is right before I walked down the aisle. We practiced that I would start walking down after the music played for a few seconds. However, on the actual day, my allergies were messing up and I really needed some Kleenex. My brother ran upstairs to grab me some tissue right as the music started playing. I didn’t walk down the aisle until the music was playing for over a minute. It made for a dramatic affect!”

“My brother walked me down the aisle. Our dad passed away in 2010, so I knew that Zach would be the one to give me away when I got married. Instead of doing a father-daughter dance, we got to do a brother-sister dance. The song that I chose- “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac, always reminded me of my dad. Typically, I am not an emotional person, but when that song began to play, I lost it. I am so thankful to have a brother as wonderful as mine. That was one of the sweetest moments.”

“Howie and I took a cruise to the Bahamas! It was wonderful! This was the first time we had been on vacation just the two of us. It was much needed!”
