NC Museum of Art Engagement Photos

We photographed Paige + Philip’s engagement session at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. These two will be tying the knot at the NCMA in the fall, so it was a great chance to walk the grounds together and discuss the day of logistics. The NCMA and adjacent park is HUGE and filled with so many amazing locations for photos – it was also a perfect chance for us to use some of the farther out locations that we might not be able to make it to on the wedding day.
My favorite part of the session though, happened when Philip changed into his second outfit. You know it’s a good sign when your couple ends up wearing the same outfit as you – and David and Philip were the cutest outfit twins! Seriously though, we had SO much fun with these two! It’s always really nice when you meet another couple and they instantly feel like old friends. We’re SO stoked to be celebrating Paige and Philip this fall. We can already tell these two are going to be throwing one amazing wedding!

How did you and Philip meet?
“We met through a family friend that worked in Philip’s department at his job. She is more like an older sister to me (because our parents are childhood best friends.) After finding out that we were both single, she began to play matchmaker. She set the stage, telling him stories about us growing up and how pretty I was. Meanwhile, she couldn’t stop saying how great he was – and really cute. She exchanged our phone numbers, and as they say, the rest is history!”

Tell us about your first date!
“Our first date was at the Cheesecake Factory. When I arrived, I waited on the bench by the front doors and suddenly, I see this really tall, nice-looking guy approaching me and right then I was really excited. Could be this be him? Oh it was! We spent the next few hours getting to know each other and ended the night with a photo. This was a blind date I’m sure glad I didn’t miss!”

Tell us a little about your upcoming wedding!
“Our wedding is going to be November 18, 2017 at the North Carolina Museum of Art. We will have our ceremony in the East Building among the many walls of art. Following that will be our reception in the West Building, where we hope to celebrate and dance the night away with our closest family and friends. We are envisioning a modern celebration with formal attire and a great time had by all!”

Philip, what do you love most about Paige?
“Paige is one of the most caring people I have ever met. She is always looking out for others and her kindness and love is evident in everything she does. Her positive energy and unwavering support makes everything in my life better and helps me through any bad day I may have. She makes me want to be a better person and I could ask for nothing else in a partner.”

How did Philip propose?
“It was a Tuesday night while I was cooking dinner. He asked me to come look at something in the spare bedroom he was working on for his parents – since they were coming within the next few days. I was bewildered! What could he have done without my knowledge? So we made our way up to the room and I still had no idea what was going on. He opened the closet doors and pulled out an empty Star Wars Lego box and put his hand in it. I had butterflies because I was hoping that it was ‘The Time’, but still had no clue what he was thinking. Then he looked me in the eye and said some wonderful things, which I can’t remember because I was so stunned. He then got down on one knee and asked me to be with him forever. We both started cryin as I said, ‘of couse!’ It was the most perfect moment and in true fashion, he did not cease to amaze me with his grandmother’s diamond in the setting we loved. After 5 years, you can say I was beyond ready to be his forever!”

How would you describe Philip?
“Philip is a very hard working, driven individual that puts his all into everything he does. As my partner in life, he is my rock; always grounding me and showing me what true love really means. He is also very caring and devoted, wearing his heart on his sleeve. Philip is hilarious, making me laugh constantly! I believe the most important quality he possesses is his endearment. He never lets a conversation end without saying ‘I love you.’ I cherish that about him.

What are your favorite ways to unwind together?
“We are homebodies, so if you happen to catch us on any given week night – we are probably watching an old episode of Seinfeld, while he is helping me cook a new recipe in the kitchen. On the weekends, you can count on something sports related being watch on TV! Even though we don’t do it often enough, we love to travel. And by that, I mean taking a road trip with each other. Whether we are traveling to meet family or friends, we always try to make time to go exploring new things on our own.

Old Wide Awake Plantation Wedding

Pamela + Alex were wed at the Old Wide Awake Park in Hollywood, SC.

Angel-Oak-Charleston-Wedding-PhotoCharleston is possibly my favorite US city, so any excuse to shoot a wedding there is a dream! Pamela and Alex’s destination wedding at the Old Wide Awake Plantation in Hollywood, SC. was no exception. I was so excited that they picked this as their venue. Set against the Stono River, the grounds are lined with historic oaks full of spanish moss; it’s romantic and full of southern charm! Pam and Alex are one of the sweetest couples, and their wedding day was lovely. From her gorgeous, colorful bouquet to the orange adorned garland and gold flatware, every detail was perfect.

How did Alex propose?
“The first gift Alex got Pamela was a stuffed Red Panda. A few years later, we went to Lincoln, Nebraska for the weekend of Alex’s birthday. The first stop was to the Lincoln Children’s Zoo, but when we arrived the zoo was closed! Nonetheless, Alex waltzed up to the gate and knocked. We were let in and told we would be feeding the young Red Pandas! We got to go in the cage with them and feed them apples, which was such a cool (and cute) experience. When the apples ran out, Pamela turned around and Alex was on one knee!”

Tell us about your wedding!
“Our wedding was held at Wide Awake Park in Hollywood, South Carolina. We loved this venue because it felt like it a secluded getaway from everyday life. We wanted our guests to be able to escape into the natural beauty and have fun being together!”

Pamela and Alex wanted to save the first look for their ceremony, but still wanted to spend a few minutes together. So they exchanged love notes they’d written just before the ceremony. So sweet!

Coastal weather is always so unpredictable. The rain paused just long enough for their ceremony, thankfully. So these two were able to say their vows under the beautiful oak trees overlooking the Stono River as planned.

What do you love most about Alex?
“I’ve never met a nicer, more level-headed person. We’ve been together for almost four years and the only time I’ve heard him yell is while watching sports!”

What qualities do you admire most in Pamela?
“Beyond being the kindest, most beautiful person I’ve even met, I love how passionate Pamela is.  Whether it’s play or work, she gives it everything she’s got. I’m not sure she even knows what the phrase “giving up” even means.”

We also love when couple’s aren’t afraid to break tradition and make their wedding day their own. These two love games more than dancing, so they opted to spend the evening playing classic lawn games with their friends. Several stations of horseshoes, croquet, cornhole, and giant beer bong were set up throughout the park – allowing guests to bond and enjoy a low-key evening.

What was the most fun part of wedding planning for you?
“For Pamela, it was the dress! She designed it herself and seeing it all come together was a lot of fun. Alex said, ‘tasting the food, of course! I also enjoyed putting together the game plan (ha) for the yard games.'”

Chattahoochee River Engagement Photos
Shari + Will

We headed down to Atlanta a few weeks ago to meet up with Shari and Will for their engagement session. These two will be tying the knot at Highland Brewing Co. in Asheville later this summer, which we’re SUPER stoked about! But in the meantime, we wanted to document their engagement on their home turf. Shari and Will are super outdoorsy, and Shari wanted their photos to have a more woodsy/river vibe. So we ventured over to the West Palisades Trail (Thanks, Erica!) which winds along the Chattahoochee River just outside of Atlanta.  You guys – this place was awesome! I’m so sad that we live too far away to enjoy the Chattahoochee – it’s the perfect river for a leisurely float weekend!
Shari and Will were SO much fun to hang out with though! It’s always really nice when you feel like you click well with a couple – and they couldn’t have been more laid-back or sweet! We’re so excited for their brewery wedding! Just a couple more months!

How did the two of you meet?
“Our friend Lauren set us up by making sure we’d both be at the same Super Bowl Party. It was love at first jalapeno popper.”

Tell us about your first date!
“Shari was going camping with her brother and his friends at Panther Creek in North Georgia, and asked Will and the aforementioned Lauren and her husband to join. It wasn’t a typical date, but it’s when we had our first kiss, so we count it. 🙂 Our actual first date was at Cheesecake Factory…lame.”

How did Will propose?
“Unlike most girls, Shari always said she wanted a proposal on the big screen at a sporting event. Every time they went to a game, she was prepared! So it caught her completely off-guard when Will got down on one knee while they were hiking the Maroon Bells in Colorado. After she caught her breath – the altitude is no joke – and determined that Will was, in fact serious, she, of course, said yes. (She wouldn’t mind a second proposal at a football game, though!)”

What are some of your favorite ways to unwind together?
“Sports. (Shari’s gotten better, but she definitely had a Ticketmaster problem when they first started dating.) Traveling. Beer! (Was that obvious from our wedding venue? We love trying new breweries.)  Lazy Sundays on the couch. Doting on our nephews and nieces. <3”

What do you admire most in Will?
“He will stop at nothing to make me happy, even if it means he doesn’t get what he wants, and can always make me laugh. He is kind, loyal, generous, and trustworthy. He indulges my travel bug. When he plays with our nieces and nephews it absolutely melts my heart. I know I can say anything to him and he’ll never pass judgment. The way he balances my type-A, stressed personality with his easy-going one; there can’t possibly be a man in the world more patient than him. He is truly my best friend, and we have the greatest time together. When I’m not with him I’m always wishing he was there. He really does make me want to be a better person.

What do you love most about Shari?
“She seems to know what she wants in life and isn’t afraid to take chances. She is amazingly loving and thoughtful towards her friends and family. Her sense of adventure and love of travel is one of the things I love the most about her. My life has been so much better off for it, and I look forward to every new amazing trip she has in store for me. Our sense of humor is very similar which is very important because you’ll never have a dull life if you can find the comedy in any situation.”

Franklin Park Conservatory Wedding – Colombus, OH.

Columbus-OH-Conservatory-Garden-Wedding-Photo

It was an absolute honor to photograph Kate and David’s wedding at the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio last fall. These two have been so much fun to work with over the last few years! If only they lived a little closer…
Kate and David’s wedding weekend was our first time exploring Columbus. And it’s a pretty awesome city! The Franklin Park Conservatory is easily one of my all-time favorite venues now. It’s just so gorgeous! There were infinite beautiful locations to use for their wedding portraits, and trying to choose between them was my biggest struggle! Luckily, Kate made sure to set aside plenty of time for portraits and we had a full hour to roam all of the various garden collections. Yay!

Kate and David’s wedding ceremony and reception was held in the Palm House. This grand Victorian-style glass greenhouse was built in 1895 and houses a 100+ year old Fiddle-leaf Fig. (If you’ve ever struggled to keep a fiddle-leaf fig alive, like me – you would’ve been in awe!) It was the perfect tropical backdrop for their beautiful ceremony.

We’re so fortunate to be able to photograph couples from all over the world. Destination weddings can be stressful at times, but it’s always such an honor to get these opportunities. We can’t thank Kate and David (and all of their awesome friends and family) enough for being so hospitable to us! We wish them all the best!
